About HGMAA

Led by Executive Director Gerami Groover-Flores, the Hamilton-Garrett Music and Arts Academy is a non-profit after-school program affiliated with the Historic Charles Street A.M.E Church in Roxbury, MA. HGMAA is committed to passing on the rich legacy of Black music, building community through youth development and cultural pride, and challenging inner-city youth to see themselves, not merely as consumers of culture, but as positive producers of culture and the arts. HGMAA utilizes traditional and contemporary music from the African-American and African diaspora in all their curricula to powerfully reinforce identity among their students. HGMAA offers private lesson instruction, music history, choral studies, performance ensembles, and opportunities for student recitals and performances. Visit HGMAA's website to learn more about their organizational mission and offerings.

Since engaging in the Table for More series in August 2020, our board has spent time reckoning with the state of diversity, access, equity, and inclusion in the NATS Boston community. There is no doubt that we have much work to do to foster a diverse community imbued with the spirit of belonging. We are inspired to take action and to make meaningful change. NATS Boston is committed to uplifting the voices of Black leaders in our community making a profound impact in music and voice education.
