GENERAL INFORMATION
NATS Boston is excited to present the 2024 STUDENT AUDITIONS!
This year NATS Boston Student Auditions will be in-person for all divisions.
Student Auditions will take place over 3 separate days for the 3 divisions (Classical, Commercial Music, Musical Theatre), all in the Spring of 2024.
Nearly all NATS National Student Auditions (NSA) categories will be offered for our in-person auditions, including adult avocational categories.
For more information on the categories being offered, visit the Division & Category Info page.
Detailed information on the repertoire requirements for each category can be found on the Repertoire Info page.
All 3 events will offer a guest clinician in the field who will judge, offer a professional development session, and work with students.
We aim to hold all 3 Student Auditions events in various locations in our membership territory.
Each event will have a different Student Auditions Project lead.
Classical - Liz Eschen Cacciola (President)
Commercial Music - Kristen Murdaugh (Communications)
Musical Theatre - Craig Juricka (VP) & Kayla Gautereaux (Treasurer)
Eligibility:
Participants should be actively studying with a chapter member of NATS Boston.
Singers and their teachers do not have to be currently living in the Boston area to participate.
A student's age as of September 1, 2023 will determine the student’s category of entry. Students will remain in the same category for an entire audition cycle—even if later in the academic year on their birthday, they age out of the category. September 1st is the first day of each annual NATS National Student Auditions cycle and is designated here for that reason.
All NATS Boston member teachers who submit students to the chapter auditions must be available to volunteer for the relevant Student Auditions event. In the case of adjudication, teachers will adjudicate categories in which they have not submitted students.
Registration:
Registration Fee: $30 per singer per division. Singers may sign up for up to three divisions (Classical, Commercial Music, Musical Theatre). If this fee presents financial hardship, please email treasurer@natsboston.org for scholarship information.
To register for Classical, Commercial Music, and/or Musical Theatre Student Auditions, students will complete and submit the relevant registration form (including repertoire information). Upon completion of the form, singers will be directed to the payment form which must also be completed in order for the student to be fully registered.
The registration form will open no later than 2 months prior to each Student Audition event, with notification of each event's date, location, and other information being sent to the membership no later than 3 months prior to each event.
Prizes:
Monetary prizes will be awarded to all top 3 finalists who receive a score of 90 or above in their category.
The amount of the monetary prize will be determined by the number of singers registered for each division (Classical, Commercial Music, Musical Theatre) and the category itself.
Pianists:
House pianists will be provided by NATS Boston for all divisions. It is mandatory to be accompanied by the house pianists for the Student Auditions, with the exception of students in the Commercial Music division.
Withdrawal Policy:
Participants requesting to withdraw from the Student Auditions will receive a refund of the registration fee, under the condition that they have given notice at least 24 hours prior to the start of the 2024 Student Auditions division event in which they are participating.
Need to withdraw? Email communications@natsboston.org.
Regionals:
NATS Boston Student Auditions are non-progressive, but we do encourage singers to participate in auditions at the Regional level as well. For more information, please visit http://www.nenats.com/
