Lift Ev'ry Voice: Celebrating the Music of Black Americans

NATS Boston is happy to share details of the following collaboration taking place on the Harvard University campus April 8th & 9th, and to welcome our “Table for More” friend Marques Garrett to work with our NATS Boston singers in person! See below for details on all events, including our co-sponsored Masterclass on April 9th.

The Aeolians of Oakwood University, Kuumba Singers of Harvard College, and Harvard Choruses are excited to present a concert on Friday, April 8 at 8 pm in Sanders Theatre for Lift Ev’ry Voice: Celebrating the Music of Black Americans. The program will feature premieres of works by Marques L. A. Garrett and Rosephanye Dunn-Powell in honor of Eileen Southern, the first Black woman tenured at Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The concert begins at 8 (pre-concert talk at 7). Admission is free. Tickets are available at the Harvard Box Office.

On Saturday morning April 9th at 9am in Sanders Theatre, the Holden Voice Program of the Harvard Choruses will join with NATS Boston to co-sponsor a masterclass with clinicians Marques Garrett, Felicia Barber, and Brandon Waddles.  This will be an incredible opportunity for student soloists from Oakwood, Harvard, NATS Boston, and Hamilton-Garrett Music and Arts Academy to work with these esteemed guests; as with all events, admission is free!

After the Masterclass, please join for a family-friendly Community Sing on Saturday, April 9 at 11 am at Harvard's Science Center Plaza tent. The event is led by five engaging and nationally renowned choral conductors who will lead the audience through a program of songs from our country’s greatest choral tradition: the music of Black Americans. The selections will include well-known songs and short, easy-to-learn pieces that the conductors will teach to participants. A lyric sheet will be provided. Free admission, no tickets required!
