GENERAL INFORMATION
NATS Boston is excited to present the 2025 VIRTUAL STUDENT AUDITIONS!
NATS Boston is committed to offering this beloved NATS student-focused program on a regular basis. Teachers who are members of NATS Boston can submit their students, who have the opportunity to receive constructive feedback from voice professionals and compete to receive awards.
NATS Boston Student Auditions are non-progressive, meaning that students do not compete beyond the local level. We encourage singers to participate in auditions at the New England Region Auditions for a chance to compete at the National Student Auditions (NSA).
Why virtual auditions for 2025?
NATS Boston is committed to giving students a holistic, realistic, and varied competition experience. That is why NATS Boston has chosen to alternate between in-person and virtual auditions each year. An in-person audition experience is very different from a self-taped virtual audition experience. And in each setting, incredibly valuable skills are acquired.
Why submit for both NATS Boston and New England?
There are many reasons to submit for both NATS Boston and New England Region Auditions:
Why should I consider re-recording for New England Region Auditions?
Sometimes, an extra set of eyes and ears beyond your voice teacher allows for even more growth. With the feedback you receive from NATS Boston, you can apply that feedback to your re-recorded videos and present an even more polished product to be considered for the National qualifier.
If I submit for both, can I submit the same videos?
Absolutely! So long as your videos follow the repertoire and filming guidelines for both Boston and NE Region/NSA, you can submit the same videos if you feel they are ready.
A Note from The Student Auditions Coordinator, Stephanie Morey-Barry
Hi there! I am so thrilled to serve as the Student Auditions Coordinator for NATS Boston. Student Auditions are very near and dear to my heart. Growing up, my voice teacher, Sandi Nason, took us every year. It was an extremely fond component of my early instruction and singing career. Now, having taught voice for nearly 15 years, I have seen the positive impact it has had on my students and the invaluable resource it is to my singers to get the written feedback. I hope to do this amazing program justice as we work together to continue the incredible legacy NATS Boston has of fostering brilliant vocal artists in all genres!
If you have questions, please reach out to me at [email protected], or Auditions Advisor Liz Eschen Cacciola at [email protected].

Why submit for both NATS Boston and New England?
There are many reasons to submit for both NATS Boston and New England Region Auditions:
- Twice the feedback! Students will receive written feedback at both competitions. The more feedback students receive, the more insight to their singing and overall performance they will have to reflect on and review with their teacher.
- Twice the prizes! From cash prizes to free coachings and more, there are great rewards for winners in both competitions.
- Feedback before Region Auditions! Since New England Region Auditions are progressive, winners from the regional round will compete with winners from all over the country. NATS Boston Auditions submissions and feedback will be given to students and teachers two weeks prior to the due date for NE Region Auditions, which will allow teachers time to go over the feedback and decide whether to re-record.
- More practice on camera! From college pre-screen video submissions to self-tapes in the professional world, virtual auditions are becoming a reality of the music industry. Any practice working through this process and becoming better at self-tapes will lead to a more successful career in performing arts.
- The opportunity to compete in a “one-and-done” competition! The NE Region/National Student Auditions process is a long-term commitment that requires traveling if students make it to finals. For some students, this may not be something for which they have the bandwidth, preparation, or interest. NATS Boston Auditions allow these student to dip their toes into the competition experience without committing to something long-term.

REGISTRATION
Categories & Repertoire:
For the virtual 2025 NATS Boston Student Auditions, we will be using the exact categories for the New England Region & National Student Auditions.
This NSA 2024-2025 Categories of Entry document spells out the terminology, categories, and repertoire requirements that we will be using this year.
Depending on division size, caps and/or division splits may be implemented. This will be determined by order of registration. For this reason, we encourage everyone to register sooner rather than later.
Video Submission Guidelines:
Everything you need to know about submitting your videos can be found at the 2024-2025 NSA Video Submission Guidelines.
Eligibility:
Participants should be actively studying with a chapter member of NATS Boston.
Singers and their teachers do not have to be currently living in the Boston area to participate.
A student's age as of September 1, 2024 will determine the student’s category of entry. Students will remain in the same category for an entire audition cycle—even if later in the academic year on their birthday, they age out of the category. September 1st is the first day of each annual NATS National Student Auditions cycle and is designated here for that reason.
Acknowledging that Student Auditions is a herculean effort and can only take place if there are enough volunteers and judges to support the students participating, all NATS Boston member teachers submitting students to the chapter auditions must be available to volunteer. Depending on the number of students who register, teachers may not be required to volunteer, but until registration closes and the number of volunteers needed can be precisely determined, teachers are requested to be available. In the event that a teacher is unavailable to volunteer, they must provide a proxy in their place, and that proxy cannot be someone who is already committed to volunteering. In the case of adjudication, teachers will adjudicate categories in which they have not submitted students.
Timeline:
For the virtual 2025 NATS Boston Student Auditions, Finalists will be awarded their placement & prizes at the January announcement. There will be an opportunity to showcase their repertoire at a live performance later in Spring/Summer 2025, which will not affect the outcome or eligibility of the singers to participate virtually.
*A Note About Video Vetting
Teachers are responsible for making sure that videos and information are in compliance with the NATS guidelines. However, NATS Boston will double check all videos submitted by December 20th and give an opportunity to fix errors. After December 20th, any submitted videos will not be vetted for errors and face risk of disqualification.
