Our Year of the Teacher is all about supporting YOU in the amazing work that you do. That’s why we’re so excited to share our Community Bridges initiatives, designed to:
Here’s an overview of the initiatives you’ll see over the next year:
Virtual Boston Chapter STUDENT AUDITIONS
With our return to Student Auditions this past May, NATS Boston is committed to offering this beloved NATS student-focused program on a regular basis. In years of the NATS Mentorship Program, our Boston Chapter Student Auditions will be virtual, occurring before the NATS Regional online auditions. This will support the NSA/Regional process by providing the opportunity for feedback and re-recording, if desired.
We are pleased to welcome Stephanie Morey-Barry as our Student Auditions Coordinator for Fall 2024. You may remember seeing her enthusiastic smile at the Student Auditions registration table in May! Keep an eye out for an email with the full details and website links in the coming weeks!
Friday Toolkits
Join us once a month for a virtual Lunch & Learn as we invite expert members in our community to share the tools behind their success! Upcoming topics include Innovation in the Music Business, How to Organize Your Business, Resources on Finances/Taxes for Teachers, and more.
Member COMMITTEES
Our NATS Boston community is full of ideas & insights, and we want to hear them! Our Board now has two committees that are open to all members to participate.
For more information on how to join these committees, email Director of Communications Lyndsee Bell at [email protected].

Community News
Our NATS Boston teacher network is one of our greatest, and perhaps most under-utilized, strengths. We’d like to create more ways to share knowledge, ask questions, recommend studios, meet new friends, promote opportunities, and stay informed on what’s happening across our community.
Summer Book Club & Picnic
In Summer 2025, we are excited to launch our first ever Book Club. Spend the summer soaking up new knowledge and discovering a shared passion for pedagogy! Send your Book Recommendations HERE - we will send out a final vote in the Spring.
At the end of the summer/start of the academic year, we will be bringing back the NATS Boston End-of-Summer BBQ, re-envisioned as a Potluck Picnic! This gathering will cement and celebrate the learnings and friendships brought about from the Year of the Teacher.
More details to come!
- Build and strengthen the connective tissues across our membership
- Equip members with tools, resources, and support in elevating their pedagogy skills and overall well-being

Member COMMITTEES
Our NATS Boston community is full of ideas & insights, and we want to hear them! Our Board now has two committees that are open to all members to participate.
- Our Membership Committee, led by Director of Membership Emily Siar, works on creating connections within our NATS community - the NATS Boston Mentorship Program, SNATS Boston, new member gatherings, etc. are all housed here.
- Our Innovation Committee, led by Director of Commercial Music & Innovation LaMarcus Miller, aims to thread culture and music from a melange of backgrounds and present them to the greater Boston ecosystem. The commercial music arena does not discriminate against genre; "popular music" constantly shifts and chameleonizes, and we're here to surface and celebrate the interstitial moments of its transformation. We aim to illuminate and support those shifts by creating empathy through education, inclusivity of all genres and people groups, and shepherding new ideas and relationships for all who choose to engage.
For more information on how to join these committees, email Director of Communications Lyndsee Bell at [email protected].

- NEWSLETTER: We welcome back our NATS Boston newsletter! Arriving in your inboxes 2x/month, this will highlight our upcoming NATS Boston events, feature one of you in our Featured Teacher of the Month section, and give Community News. Starting now!! If you have an event to share, please email your event details to Director of Communications, Lyndsee Bell at [email protected] or tag us on Instagram @natsboston!
- DIRECTORY: Are you looking for new students? Do you have a student who is ready for a specialist in a particular genre? Are you a specialist in a particular area? Are they in Newton, or Andover, or happy to do virtual lessons? What great teaching is happening outside of our immediate circles? All of this begs the question - other than FB and its limitations, how do we find these answers? Our hope is that this opt-in, internal NATS Boston Directory will help answer some of these questions. Stay tuned for more details!

March FEATURED TEACHER OF THE MONTH!

We are thrilled to introduce...
Kirsten Oberoi
South Shore Children's Chorus
https://www.sscchorus.org/
Why do you sing?
I sing because it is me. My voice is the best way to tell you who I am - it is authentically me. I also sing because singing crunchy harmonies is possibly the best feeling in the whole wide world.
Who do you teach?
All programs and ensembles through SSCC are audition-free. Students (or also adults!) sign up and show up, and we teach them where they are at. At South Shore Children's Chorus, we firmly believe that singing is a skill that can be taught, and through teaching that skill singers gain confidence in themselves in holistic ways. Currently at SSCC I teach two sections of our 7th-12th grade ensemble (65 students), two sections of our 9th-12th grade ensemble "Resonate" (35 students) and one section of our 3rd-6th grade ensemble "Amplify" (74 students). I also teach a weekend adult choir experience in June for 18+ singers called "Encore"!
Why do you NATS?
As a choral director, I am well aware that for most of my students I also serve as their voice teacher. Because SSCC is an audition-free program, I regularly have students join the choir that have no formal experience learning to sing. I need to be equipped with tools in order to teach skill sets such as vocal navigation, healthy sound production, pitch matching, and more so that my students are successful in the classroom. While many choral organizations offer exercises and activities, I find that being in the vocal pedagogy world offers me more tools when it comes to listening to singers and helping them learn the skill of using their voice in a healthy way.
What song is on loop on your Spotify?
Light On, Maggie Rogers, or the entire Snow Patrol Eyes Open album
What is your student population/style?
Integration of vocal pedagogy into choral settings!
