We are thrilled to introduce...
Christina DeMaio

Why do you sing?
I sing for community and collaboration. I sing to make a contribution to life's most celebratory moments, just as I sing to bring comfort and peace to those who grieve. I sing because for much of my life, it has been a faithful constant, and perhaps only thing that has ever come so naturally to me. I sing to best serve my students and keep myself sharp and in shape for them. And I sing because nothing satisfies my desire for beauty and consonance like utilizing my "ear for Harmony", which I've come to regard as my greatest gift and greatest joy.
Why do you teach?
I teach because nothing lights and fills me up more than to witness the impact that singing lessons can have. More than teaching technique, music literacy, or performance practices, we have the opportunity to build confidence in our singers - at any age- that will serve them in so many areas of life.
Whether my students pursue vocal training as a hobby or have professional aspirations, facilitating a space for judgement-free creative expression has proven more and more vital in our fast-paced, often overstimulating, and uncertain world. To be able to provide this is very humbling and inspires me continue my own learning journey, remaining curious and open through the years.
I feel I serve my students best in my role as their voice teacher by acting more as a supportive "guide." My hope is for them to feel empowered, take ownership and pride in their own unique vocal journey, and to know that they are the second "expert" in the room as no one knows their voice and body better than they do.
Why do you NATS?
I NATS because I love being a part of a community and network of growth-minded voice teachers who share similar values and experiences. NATS provides so many invaluable mentorship and professional development opportunities for young voice teachers that have benefitted me greatly over the years. NATS also provides its members with frequent opportunities and resources to become a more skillful adjudicator through the Student Auditions. My experiences thus far as an adjudicator have contributed very positively to my growth as a private teacher and have connected me to other wonderful voice educators in my local community that I may not have otherwise met!
What song is on loop on your Spotify?
"You and The Mona Lisa" by Shawn Colvin
What is your student population/style?
I work primarily with children and teens as well as some avocational adults. The majority of my students enjoying singing CCM (Pop) and Musical Theatre.
